Hotel Indigo Chelsea Booked!

After deciding this upcoming trip to NYC would not be "theater-centric" I thought...hmmm...what neighborhood should we stay in?

Having stayed on the east side during my last trip to The Big Apple, I knew I wanted to stay on the west side...guess you could say I'm a west side girl...I just prefer it there and in my humble opinion, subway options seem better on the west side.

After consulting with a friend in the hotel business, who just happens to work for Intercontinental Hotels, I was ready to jump at the chance to stay at the new (it's been open for just less than a year) Hotel Indigo Chelsea.  Hotel Indigo is the boutique hotel brand of Intercontinental Hotels and I've stayed at one in Atlanta and LOVED it.  So, when I realized the Chelsea location was ideal for me, on W. 28th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues, my fingers couldn't type the reservation request soon enough!

Although the nightly room rate of $260 wasn't the rock bottom price I got this past March when staying at the Affinia Shelburne, the location and reputation of the Hotel Indigo trumped cost savings this time.  And, since it's only a 2 night stay, why not!

Once the hotel and flights were booked it was time for me to do my restaurant hunting.  This will be a quick trip and being there only 2 nights certainly cuts down on restaurant/meal opportunities, so I want to make sure the choices are good ones!

I've booked 2 dinners, one at Crispo an Italian restaurant (no big surprise there).  The other one at Tabla, an Indian restaurant, now that's a departure from the usual, but the menu looks good and it's a Danny Meyer place, so hopefully it will be good.  And, since the weekend includes Sunday I booked a Sunday brunch at Five Points, which if my research is correct, is a place that has "elevated" brunch to new heights...we'll soon find out!

With all this restaurant booking and no theater tickets...what are we to do...the first order of business will be to see if Eataly will be open.  Yes, the famous Italian market is being imported to NYC by none-other than Mario Batali.  Based on articles I've read it's scheduled to open, all 60,000 square feet of it at the end of August.  So, fingers are crossed it will be open when we are there in early September!

If  a visit to Eataly doesn't pan out...Plan B is to wander the High Line Park and peruse Chelsea Market.  And the "big event" of the weekend will be a visit to The Cloisters.  We've heard such great things about this museum and didn't want to pass up an opportunity to see it, so Sunday afternoon we'll check it out.

So, NYC plans are in place...hoping the weather will be perfect!
