....planning a return trip to Italy of course!
Shortly after signing up for Italian lessons the conversation with mom, my trusty travel companion, turned to the obvious..."when are we going back to Italy"?
I didn't need much nudging to start checking out airfares for the spring of 2012. I started checking airfares for the end of May, trying to incorporate the Memorial Day holiday into the mix. Not much luck, prices were around $1800...Yikes! Then I started to work back through April, being mindful that I really didn't want to travel during the Easter holiday. When I got to the last week of March I hit it big...round trip, including taxes was just under $850! I thought I was dreaming, but I made my fingers fly across the keyboard to hit the purchase button. Base fare on the tickets were around $725, I haven't seen prices like that in ages.
Now I can happily say mom and I are returning to Rome for a week at the end of March 2012! I can't wait to use some of my newly acquired Italian speaking skills!
Stay tuned for the hunt to find Roman accommodations...apartment or hotel? That is the question now!

Watch Out Italy....I'm taking Italian Language Lessons!
Shocker! Who would have thought Italian classes would be offered right here in the LowCountry? But it's true and I could not be more thrilled!
I'm into the fourth week of classes and loving it. The class meets on a weekly basis for 2 hours, so it's not a huge amount of time, but in the four weeks of class, I realize I have a small knowledge of the language, enough to be able to have myself understood in shops and restaurants!
The professor, is a native Italian speaker, from Milano. The first class we jumped right in, feet first with conjugating verbs, a little daunting, but when I was actually understanding the lecture in Italian I felt proud of myself. Did I understand, every single word? No, but I was able to catch most of it and I was happy with that!
With 9 lessons left I can learn more. Do I expect to be able to have a fluent conversation in Italian with an Italian any time soon? Not likely. Do I expect to be able to greet people, purchase merchandise, and order food & drink? Absolutely!
