Fodorites are fabulous and I truly mean it! I spent an afternoon with about 20 other Fodorites last Saturday in Atlanta and I have to say it was a delightful 3 hours that went by way too quickly.
The ball got rolling about a month ago when one Fodorite posted about being in the Decatur, GA area and if anyone wanted to have a get togehter. Well as get together posts on Fodors can go, there were upwards of 200 posts with logistics seeming to be a nightmare. Thanks to a few great restaurant suggestions The Watershed restaurant in Decatur was choosen as the place, a day and time were set and the actual number of attendees, well, that was a moving target right up until the end, but I'm pretty sure there were 19 or 20 of us. Organizing the event appeared to be a daunting task but the Fodorite who took the helm did it with such ease!
Lots of good food, wine and terrific travel talk! It turns out 4 of us there all have plans to visit Paris this year...we'll all reap the benefits of each others travel adventures and I'll make my best effort in putting together some good Paris restaurant suggestions for everyone. Mom and I will be missing Fodorite Hershey by mere hours in Paris. She arrives the day we leave...maybe we can be ships... or should it be planes... passing at Charles de Gaulle!
It wouldn't be a trip to Atlanta without a stop at Trader Joe's to stock up on wine (now 2 Buck Chuck makes pinot grigio!) and other "essential" Trader Joes products!
Plus how could we leave the thriving southern metropolis without seeing my Atlanta buddies, so an evening at Ecco with Regi, Scott and Darlene capped off a laugh-a-minute weekend.
I had a good restaurant find in Sandy Springs....The Tasting Room. Not your typical shopping strip mall restaurant, the food and wine (there is a wine shop right next to the restaurant in the shopping center) were fantastic. I had the duck leg confit cassoulet and it was lip-smacking good, warm and hearty, perfect for a chilly winter evening!
Stay tuned for another Atlanta escapade...during this weekend visit I found out there is a Princess Diana exhibit with some of her gowns, including her wedding gown and some of her jewlry and other Diana items at the Atlanta Civic Center. I think by early April we'll need to make another Atlanta/Trader Joe's wine run!
