Exploring a western city...Hello Santa Fe, New Mexico!

Why Santa Fe?  Well...it's a Fodors Get Together!

It may seem nuts to fly to Santa Fe from South Caroina for a get together, but this is a big one.  Fodorites from all over the U.S. will be there, some I have met and some new faces.

After thinking about it for a while and weighing whether or not this was a trip I really wanted to do I decided Santa Fe was a place I really did want to see, so the airfare search began.  The plane tickets weren't super cheap, but they weren't extrordinarily expensive either. What did surprise me was the hotel room rates.  I've come to learn September in Santa Fe is still the high season, and since I really want to stay in the plaza area (in the middle of everything!) I will pay the price.

The plan is to fly into Albuquerque and drive to Santa Fe, about an hour away by car.  I've booked a room at the Hotel Plaza Real based on a recommendation from a Fodorite who is familiar with Santa Fe and has stayed at the hotel before...can't beat a trusted hotel recommendation!

For now the basic plan is set, flights, hotel and car rental are booked.  In a few months I can start the real fun part of planning...restaurants and activities to do!  I'm really looking forward to Santa Fe, I've heard it's a great place and I know the people at the get together will be a fun bunch!

I think you can take the train now if you don't want a car... not sure if it runs from the airport though.

Hi Beth! Thanks for the train information. I did hear about that option from another Fodorite. At this point we're going the rental car route. Got a good rate with National ($88 all in for the 4 days!)
