Could volcanic eruption shake up my travel plans?

Yesterday a volcano in southern Iceland began erupting and spewing ash into the air.  As luck would have it the direction the winds were blowing was straight towards Europe.  Within hours, all the UK & Irish airports were closed, all planes were grounded.  Apparently when volcanic ash gets sucked into jet engines the engines shut down...not a good thing when a plane is 30,000 feet over water!

Fast forward to this morning.  The newscasters are saying all the airports in France are now closed.  Yikes!  2 friends are flying out in the next few days for London and Paris!  And I'm leaving in 4 weeks for Europe.

Now, you'd think, that the volcano would stop in a few days, but reports are saying the scientists can't predict when the erupting will stop and the weather reports are predicting the winds will not be changing direction in the next few weeks.  The last thing on the news this morning said European airports could be closed for WEEKS!!!!

Stay Tuned!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed the volcano simmers down and stops erupting and planes can fly again.
