I've been back from a cruise of the Volga River in Russia for just over a week and I'm very conflicted about this trip. On one hand I found parts of this trip interesting and on the other hand I was less than thrilled with parts of the trip.
The most glaring negative aspect of the trip for me was the whole cruise concept. I grappled with this even before committing to this adventure. I had been on a couple Caribbean cruises and knew that wasn't my favorite type of travel. In the back of my mind I was hoping a river cruise in Russia might be different, and in some ways it was, but in many ways it was the same. So part of me is kicking myself in the butt for doing this trip. But I'm justifying the trip in my mind by saying I probably would not have attempted to plan a trip to Russia on my own and a cruise did make the coordination part easy, but by doing that I had to give up much of my "do what I want" attitude.
As I now sit in the comfort of my home I'm contemplating whether or not to write a trip report. If my heart wasn't in this trip, how would I craft an interesting and informative report?
I will just have to think about it a little more...maybe while I'm spending Labor Day weekend in New York City! ;-)

Yeah, I doubt I could ever do the cruise thing no matter where it was in the world. But it would be nice to read some of the more interesting parts of the trip... especially since I don't know when I'll be able to go to Russia! Saludos desde Buenos Aires!
Hi Robert! Great to hear from you! I'll most likely write something about my adventure to Russia. Sometimes I have to let things "marinate" in my brain before I start putting pen to paper, so to speak! :-) Oddly enough about 3 years ago mom & I were slated to do the Rick Steves Russia/Estonia/Finland trip and later backed out of it...hindsight says we probably should have done that instead! :-)
Buenos Aires is still very high on my travel wish list, I keep saying that and then my "love affair" with Italy keeps calling me back there. If I ever get to Buenos Aires I'd love to connect with you. :-)
