Terra Cotta Warriors in Atlanta!

I spent last weekend in Atlanta. The main reason for the road trip to the Peach City was to see the Terra Cotta Warriors exhibit at the High Museum, but the bonus was great shopping, amazing meal with terrific friends and a romp through Trader Joe's!

First, the Terra Cotta Warriors...the exhibits was really terrific. I "splurged" and spent the $5.00 on the audio guide...definitely worth it! There are about 20 warriors in the exhibit along with various artifacts found at the site in China. 1,000 warriors have been uncovered, but it's thought that there are 7,000 of them...incredible. The amount of detail on these sculptures is really amazing.

I booked the museum tickets online at the High Museum's website. I picked a Sunday with a 12noon entry time. When we arrived shortly before noon, there was a line outside the entrance, but it did move quickly and we only waited outside for about 5 minutes. In retrospect I probably should have picked a later time, because it was fairly crowded in the exhibit space. Probably because it was a Sunday and it was a long holiday weekend. When we left the museum just after 2pm there was no line outside.

Aside from the warriors exhibit we hit the outlet mall just south of Atlanta and had some "retail therapy". On Saturday night we met Regi, Scott, and Darlene for dinner at a fantastic restaurant called Ecco...really good food and service. The place was packed. It's primarily Italian and we started with a bunch of meats and cheeses, then a couple of the wood-fired pizza and a great chili pork pasta dish. Plus a few bottles of wine and it was a fun filled evening!

Sunday night mom and I had dinner at a place I found on the Open Table website. It's called Bistro VG and it's in Roswell, not too far from the hotel we were staying at. We started with a really fresh tasting flat bread pizza and I had the simple roasted chicken was a great caramelized onion and mushroom salad! Mom had a delicious duck dish and I got to relive our days in France with a nice Kir Royale aperitif!

Monday morning we hit the Trader Joe's in Sandy Springs and by the looks of our shopping cart people must have thought we either hadn't eaten or been to a grocery store in months! But the prices are definitely right at Trader Joe's and we stocked up on lots of goodies!

The ride home uneventful except for a lunch stop in Macon at Five Guys Burgers and Fries. It was our first time trying this restaurant chain and mom and I agreed the burgers and fries were great...a perfect ending to a fun weekend!
